In Mixcoacalli is an idea to create a space where musicians, researchers, promoters and musical authors can use as source materials the music and instruments that originate in the early Mesoamerican civilizations. It would be an open forum for the analysis, reflection and new understanding of Prehispanic music.

In Mixcoacalli springs from the needs of a group of musical instrument artisans based in Mineral de Pozos through the initiative of the group TRIBU since the year 1986 and aiming to answer as completely as possible the need and means of constructing its own cultural identity and continuing the historical tradition. After many periods of ebb and flow in activity, in December 2008, the “Colectivo In Mixcoacalli” aims integrate two Prehispanic music groups: Caracol de Fuego and Tekpatlkuikatl.

Among the collective's various goals is the presentation of an annual concert (in April) that would allow for a lively exchange of stories and ideas between the groups and other interested artists. In Mixcoacalli is interested in different perspectives that take into account the natural sounds of the ancient instruments such as the huehuetl, the teponaztli, and the tlapitzali and join them with different musical genres like Jazz, Rock, Progressive, Classical and the like.

In Mixcoacalli is a festival to honor and share the traditions and celebrate differences. It is a way to raise consciousness and interest and tapping into history and recreate the old traditions.

In Mixcoacalli for the present is not supported by any institutions or businesses (but would welcome the possibility of funding to cover the cost of operations.) What happens will be due to the interactions and the complete energy and talent of the organizers and participants.
