MUÑECAS MINA

A Community Artisanal Workshop in Doll Fabrication
This is a community project sponsored by SEBAJ ( Servicios Educativos de Bajio - Educational Services of the Bajio Region) and Manos Creativas to help the women of the community of Mineral de Pozos.
Founded in September 2002, the project consists of the fabrication of dolls dressed in regional costumes and are hand made in an artistic process in which the women develop creatively. The entire project is designed to help the women develop personally and within the community. The project is developing an alternative economic activity that will teach the women new skills and ultimately benefit the community as a whole. In the words of the women themselves,
“This experience for many of us was something new that enabled us to break our routines and to feel important and worthwhile, with the understanding that we can develop new skills and share these experiences with other women of our community.”
